Neptune statue in the Market Place Durham

Overlooked by the spire of St Nicholas Church is the King Neptune statue in the Market Place Durham. The statue was originally placed in the Market Square above a pant or drinking fountain in 1729. In the early 20th century the statue was removed to a local park to make way for modern traffic. After various subsequent moves and restorations the statue was returned to a modern plinth in the Market Square in 1991
