Solar Journey Through Interstellar Clouds
The Sun is currently inside a cloud that is of such low density that the interstellar gas, detected by NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer, or IBEX, is as sparse as a handful of air stretched over a column that is hundreds of light years long. Blue Sirius and yellow alpha Centauri are the bright stars visible below the Sun in this image.
