A Dorset county farmland hedgerow had to be cleared to ground level due to neglect and bad management. Fresh growth was protected by hammering in these sharpened hedge stakes and laying brash in between Brash is placed between lines of stakes to prevent deer from eating the fresh growth of shoots in spring and summer Any brash not suitable for laying was burnt on the fire in the background
