RAF Uxbridge formally closes its gates. A parade on the main square involving the Queen’s Colour Squadron and the Central Band of the RAF in the presence of the Air Officer Commanding 2 Group, Air Vice Marshall Hillier and the Mayor of Hillingdon Cllr Shirley Harper-O’Neill. a flypast of aircraft from 32 (The Royal) Squadron and an ensign lowering ceremony at 1655 hours, including a flypast of a Spitfire. the Mayor of Hillingdon unveiled a blue plaque commemorating Douglas Bader at the entrance to the Officers’ Mess. These events commemorate 95 years of continuous military service in the heart of the London Borough of Hillingdon.
