Bidford-on-Avon Mop Fair Sippers & Topers Circa 1906

From Benjamin Stone's Pictures pub circa 1906 Politician & photographer (1838-1914) Bidford had a reputation for deep drinking from a poem calling it Drunken Bidford. Tradition has it that Shakespeare was said to have held his own with the mere sippers (the topers being out of town) but became so overcome on his way home he had to sleep it off under a crab apple tree which then became known locally as Shakespeare's canopy
