Blackness Castle built by Sir George Crichton in the 1440s, sits on the edge of the sea on the Firth of Forth. This fortress that resembles a stone ship 'that never sailed' was used as a prison, royal residence for James II and stronghold port protection during war. This structure was a stand-in for Fort William prison in the hit TV series Outlander.
