Male white lion and cub (Panthera leo krugeri) playing. The white lion is only found in wildlife reserves in South Africa, where it is selectively bred. It is a rare colour mutation of the kruger subspecies and it is not an albino, but a leucistic. Leucism is a condition where pigment reduced in animals. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction of all types of skin or hair pigment, not just melanin. Photographed in the Sanbona Nature Reserve, Western Cape, South Africa.
