'Coomassie, Ashanti War, Africa', 1900. A view of Kumasi in the Gold Coast, (now Ghana, the first African country to gain independence). During the 'Ashanti Campaign', the local Ashanti people offered substantial resistance to British imperial ambitions in Africa. Britain finally succeeded in suppressing the Ashanti in 1900.
