According to many Arthurian legends, Morgan Le Fay is King Arthur's half-sister, the daughter of Arthur's mother Igraine and her first husband, the Duke of Cornwall. She made a duplicate of Arthur's sword Excalibur and scabbard and gave them to her lover Accolon to use to kill Arthur. The plan does not work and so Morgan steals into Arthur's bed chamber and steals Excalibur's scabbard that protects him. Pursued by Arthur, she realizes she will be caught and so throws the scabbard into the lake and turns herself into rock (pictured here).
