Birling Gap. East Sussex, December replacement beach access steps at the National Trust site on the South Coast are lifted into position. Accelerated erosion of the Chalk cliffs has necessited work to be carried out some years earlier than planned. Weather permitting the work should be completed before Christmas allowing public access to the beach once again. .
