Thornton le Moors was a township in Thornton Parish, Eddisbury Hundred (SJ 4474), which became a civil parish in 1866. Thornton-le-Moors is a village and civil parish in Chester District, Cheshire, England (grid reference SJ442745). It is situated to the south of the A5117 road. To the north of the village is the Stanlow Refinery. St Mary's Church, Thornton-le-Moors is a Grade I listed building. A cemetery is a place in which dead bodies and cremated remains are buried. The term cemetery (from Greek κοιμητήριον: sleeping place) implies that the land is specifically designated as a burying ground.
