Clump of Michaelmas Daisy / Aster novi-belgii or possibly Aster novae-angliae on drainage channel bank - they favour damp ground habitats [see NOTES]

NOTES There have been recent numerous reclassifications of the Michaelmas Daisy and Aster group of plants thanks to genetic sequencing. The common UK / European M-D is still regarded as Aster novi-belgii also now called Symphyotrichum novi-belgii. The second very similar variety is Aster novae-angliae / Symphyotrichum novae-angliae. In the distance, as with this shot no one is going to be able to distinguish between the two accurately. - There are dozens of varieties of hybrids cultured by plant breeders so found in gardens and sometimes as escapes - but often these varieties look rather exotic - as in having finer thin leaves, double flowers, and so on.
