Lyman H. Howe's New Marvels in Moving Pictures. An 1898 poster with a fanciful display of American battleships engaged in the Spanish-American war and a portrait of Howe at the top left. Lyman Hakes Howe, 1856 - 1923, American entertainment entrepreneur and innovator. He was making aerial films by 1911 and - with the use of a phonograph - is credited with being the first film-maker to marry sound effects to his movies.
