Machine using cogs and gears, 17th century illustration. This engraving is from a 1662 edition of 'Theatrum machinarum novum', a work by the German architect and engineer Georg Andreas Boeckler (1617-1687). This work included mechanical designs for mills and pumps powered by hand, and by weights, water and wind. It was originally published in German in 1661 (Nuremberg), with two Latin editions published in 1662 (Nuremberg and Cologne).
