Rocks are slowly engulfed into the trunk of this Baobab Tree that has been damaged by elephants seeking water inside in the Tuli Wilderness area of Botswana. Elephants will dig into the trees for water during the dry season and ultimately can kill the tree. Conservationists will sometimes ring the Baobab trees with small rocks that elephants won't step on in order to prevent the trees from being killed. Baobab trees are fibrous and do not feature tree rings that determine age so its ages is estimated through a combination of measurements, such as height and trunk diameter.
