Christmas decoration, Fröbelsterne (Froebel stars) on cherry boughs/twigs
Barbarazweige: according to an old tradition twigs from fruit trees cut on the 4th of December (the day of the Saint Barbara) and put into water shall blossom on Christmas eve. Fröbelstern (Froebel star): A three dimensional paper star woven from 4 stripes of paper. Froebel, a German educational theorist, developed this star among other things to improve the fine motor skills of children. Because of the starry form it is widely used as Christmas decoration.
