Jamie Stroup, an animal care specialist with the 7351 VET Detachment and a Modesto, Calif. native, with preparing a kitten for surgery to be spayed as a part of a unit cross-training initiative to shape unit capabilities of tomorrow. The 7214th MSU was conducting Innovative Readiness Training in support of Operation Walking Shield, a program that teams federal agencies with American Indian groups to help improve living conditions on American Indian reservations. Innovative Readiness Training is an opportunity that provides training for our military personnel to ensure deployment readiness while addressing needs within America’s local communities. For this IRT project, 35 Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to Army Reserve Medical Command’s 7214th MSU based in Garden Grove, California in partnership with the Fort Belknap Agency and Hays Clinic, offered health care services at the Fort Belknap Agency and Hays Clinic on the Fort Belknap Reservation, Montana from July 18-31. The project supported a tribal population of more than 5,800 people. The medical professionals supporting this mission included physicians, physician assistants, nurses, a psychologist, a behavioral health technician, a pharmacist and pharmacy technician, dentists, dental assistants, medics and several support staff. Medical services provided included general medicine, health exams, behavioral health, dental exams and services, veterinary services, public education and other health care services.
