Hachnasas Sefer Torah


Hachnasas Sefer Torah or Inauguration of a Torah scroll celebration of an Orthodox Jewish congregation in Dubrovna, Belarussia (current day Belarus) circa 1905. The ceremony is held when a Torah scroll is installed in a synagogue or other institution for use during prayer services. During the ceremony, the Torah scroll is taken in a procession to the scroll's new home accompanied by musical instruments, singing and dancing that continues inside the sanctuary.
