The Royal Clarence Hotel on Cathedral Green, Exeter, Devon, UK, burnt down following a fire in the adjacent Castle Fine Art Gallery which caught light in the early morning of October 28 2016. The establishment is said to have been the first to call itself a hotel in Britain c. 1770.
