Retired Staff Sgt. David J. Thatcher, engineer and gunner of the famed Ruptured Duck, a Doolittle Tokyo Raiders B-25, avoided serious injury during a crash landing off the China coast after the raid, which enabled him to save his crew and help them evade capture. Thatcher is now 92 years old and one of the five surviving Raiders.
