There was a noticeable in- crease in the supply of good stock, due to the heavy rainfall of last week, which broke a long period of drought. Sweet peas probably suffered the most from the dryness, although gladioli showed the effects considerably. There is a noticeable improvement in these flowers since the rainfall and gladioli are doing more to uphold the summer market than any other flower. A few asters appeared on the market last week. They were the first of the sea- son, but the quality was poor. It is thought that the dry weather of the last few weeks has damaged the aster crop to a considerable extent. Outdoor snapdragons have improved in quality the last few days, showing longer stems. Lilium auratum, or Golden Band lilies, are appearing in larger numbers and are being utilized almost exclusive- ly for funeral work. The late hy- drangeas are coming into bloom and are being used extensively to decorate the flower shops and for funeral work. Among the roses many varieties are not fit for sale. Russell, Ophelia, Colum- bia, and the new rose. Premier, are about the only marketable varieties. There is a good variety in outdoor stock, with calendulas, Shasta daisies, snap- d
