Iran. Persepolis. Capital of the Achaemenid Empire (ca. 550-330 BC). Palatial city built by King Darius I and destroyed by Alexander the Great in 330 BC. Staircase of the Palace of Xerxes (Hadish). The walls are decorated with Lion-Bull motifs (symbol of the time cycle of the day; lion represents the sun and the bull represents the night).
