Pin-type and thrum-type primroses


Pin-type (above) and thrum-type (below) primroses. Thrum-type primroses have stamens near the entrance to the flower neck and short pistils; pin-type stamens have stamens near the middle of the neck and long pistils. This arrangement discourages self-pollination and makes cross-pollination more likely.
