Namibia's Cape Cross is one of the largest breeding colonies of the South African fur seal (formerly called the Cape fur seal, with up to 100,000 animals present at some times of year. South African fur seals feed on the prolific fish stocks found in the cold Benguela current, but are subject to culling because of conflict with commercial fishermen.
