The haughty Countess Westerburg was compelled to cook and serve at table during the "Peasants' War" (1524-1525).

During the terrible "Peasants' War" (1524-1525), which accompanied the Reformation in Germany and neighboring countries, many castles fell into the insurgents' hands and the lords and ladies were subjected to every species of indignity and death. This illustration, dating to around 1900, shows one of the less tragic scenes, the haughty Countess Westerburg compelled to cook and serve at table, amid the gibes of the riotous, drunken mob of her former subjects.
