Students at the “Garden of Fugitives, petrified corpses in Pompeii, Campania, Italy


Prior to the eruption of Vesuvius this area was an ancient orchard . The area came to known as the “Garden of the Fugitives” The thirteen bodies were of people who were trying to escape the deadly volcanic ash, which gave the garden its name.
