This small farm outbuilding in the Combrailles region of the Auvergne, once housed the FTP, members of the French Resistance.


This small farm outbuilding was, during the Nazi occupation of France, used as the command post for the FTP, a branch of the Resistance containing many foreign nationals and communists. On 13 August 1944 72 of their members organised a raid on the Nazi prison at Riom where 114 political prisoners were detained, including 16 women and a number condemned to death. The prisoners were due to be transported from Riom to the death camps at 6 in the morning. The raid took place at Within minutes the guards and the sentries in the watch towers were neutralized and the prisoners loaded into lorries and taken to the small hamlet of Chambonnet where they were looked after and rested. The raid took place about a month before the Auvergne region was liberated.
