Snow Finch (Montifringilla nivalis)

Snow Finches actually belong to the Sparrow family. A resident bird, it inhabits the mountaintops of central and Southern Europe. It is gregarious and is often seen flying in flocks, when its spectacular bright white flight pattern can be appreciated even further. It is rarely seen below 1000m above sea level, and typically lives above 2000m above sea level. It is surprisingly tame, allowing a close approach. It normally has 2 broods per year, nesting in rocky crevices. Some pairs also nest in holes in buildings, walls or in nestboxes.
