An occasional glimmer of bettertimes is let in upon the situation as springdraws on, but this is discounted by the lowprices which in most lines stand ready forbuyers when they choose to make theirspring invasion. Traders of course musthave goods, but their orders come forwardvery sparingly and call for only the barestpresent wants in everything but sugarThere is no lack of offers for sugar, all onthe bear side, and generally for pretty largeinvoices. The jobbers as a rule are shy ofbusiness, but if they see that the sugar isgoing to be bought they usually yield to theinevitable and come down to the lowestpoint. Some car loads have been taken forextended delivery, though as to that, thereare few who will accept such an order. Thetrade in tea keeps steady. Canned goodsare rather listless.
