The original of this sketch his earl^ lifeon the home farm and in attendance at the dif-ferent schools in his vicinity. When reaching , he commenced the study of medicinewith Dr. .S. R. Corey, of Craftsbury, Vt., as hispreceptor. He later took a course of lectures atthe University of Vermont, and subsequentlygraduated from the College of Physicians andSurgeons of New York City. Dr. Haines thenlocated near his native place, where he practicedhis profession for three years, and then, going toOrford, N. II., remained for four years, at the end.
