Monkey jaw bone fossil from Gran Dolina site. This site is one of several in the Sierra de Atapuerca foothills near Burgos, Spain. The Atapuerca fossil sites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, containing the earliest human remains found in Europe. Numerous fossils of other animals have also been found here. The Gran Dolina site contains several levels. This fossil is from the level, and is from an Old World monkey (family Cercopithecidae) from around 1 million years ago. Photographed in July 2017.
